Fundraising Volunteer Ambassador

London borough of Richmond upon Thames

Job Ref
03/0626
Location
London borough of Richmond upon Thames

ABOUT US

We are SPEAR, a charity working tirelessly to end homelessness across South West London and beyond. We believe homelessness should be rare, brief, and non-recurring, and we work every day to make that a reality. Our services include street outreach, assessment hubs, supported accommodation, and tenancy support, helping people move off the streets and into safe, secure housing. We take a person-centred, trauma-informed approach, building trust and supporting people to achieve long-term stability and independence.

THE ROLE

SPEAR runs a variety of fundraising events throughout the year and is seeking volunteers to support these on an ad-hoc basis. Volunteers will be notified of upcoming opportunities and can choose to get involved in activities that match their interests, skills, and availability.

In this role, you’ll chat with both long-time SPEAR supporters and people who may be hearing about us for the first time. You’ll help share our mission and show how every donation helps change the lives of people facing homelessness. Volunteers will receive a full induction and training before meeting supporters.

As part of the role, ambassadors will be expected to carry out time talks, for example, at schools, Rotary clubs, or faith groups. These will have a question-and-answer section at the end. Volunteers will be provided with on-screen presentations with scripted copy. The talks will be carried out on weekdays and weekends; however, they will only be asked to do talks that fit with their schedules.

Key Activities will include:
• Be the public face of the charity.
• Provide a presentation detailing SPEAR’s history, service and goals
• Answer questions from presentation attendees.
• Engage with both organisational leaders and members at events

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• Confident and friendly communicator.
• Comfortable engaging with the public.
• Ability to engage comfortably in social situations.
• Awareness of homelessness and related issues (or a willingness to learn)
• Driving licence desired, but not essential.

• Expenses will be reimbursed.
• You’ll get to know SPEAR by receiving a full induction to volunteering with us.
• All volunteers are covered by SPEAR’s liability insurance while volunteering.
• To say thanks, you’ll be invited to volunteer appreciation events to celebrate your contribution.
• Opportunities for personal and professional development through training, support, and feedback. • After 6 months of volunteering with us, we can provide a reference.
• Be part of a project that helps change the lives of people experiencing homelessness.
